Job Summary

At the NSW Department of Education we educate and inspire lifelong learners from early childhood through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Join the NSW Department of Educations Capital Compliance team and play a key role in supporting the financial management in capital investment that delivers schools and educational facilities


About the role
As the Senior Accountant you will play a key role in strengthening the Departments capital financial governance by leading assurance compliance and reporting activities across a diverse capital portfolio. You will lead and coordinate asset revaluation processes oversee the integrity of capital accounting and reporting and ensure financial practices align with legislative requirements departmental policies and external standards.


Working collaboratively with finance teams business partners and external stakeholders you will provide trusted advice identify opportunities to improve systems and processes manage financial risks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the departments capital financial management and support the delivery of quality public education.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting capital or asset accounting management accounting audit or assurance.
  • Strong knowledge of financial governance compliance and internal control principles.
  • The ability to analyse complex financial information and provide practical risk-based advice.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to explain technical financial concepts to a range of audiences.
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and driving positive change.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes.


Key knowledge and experience


Essential requirements of the role

  • Degree in accounting or finance discipline and eligibility for membership of a recognised professional association or demonstrated relevant and successful workplace experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
