Job Summary

Vital Chemical is a recognised leader in sustainable environmental solutions with expertise in erosion control dust suppression revegetation and water treatment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Scientific Officer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an experienced laboratory scientist looking for their next challenge and who has a passion for contributing to impactful research and development projects within the environmental and sustainability industry.

This role will commence as a permanent part-time opportunity working 20 25 hours across the week with the potential for additional hours as the role evolves.

What Youll Do:

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and working collaboratively with the Senior Scientific Officer to support research and development initiatives. The position plays a key role in product development training and maintaining Vital Chemicals commitment to environmental safety and quality standards.

Other tasks include:

  • Conduct research evaluation and testing of raw materials and products to support quality safety and operational outcomes.
  • Perform quality control testing and maintain accurate batch records and laboratory documentation.
  • Ensure the correct storage and disposal of product samples in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support research and development activities including growth studies experimental design product trials validation and continuous improvement projects.
  • Research scientific information analyse data and assist with interpreting and presenting findings.
  • Accurately collect record and maintain experimental data and laboratory logs.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and scientific documentation.
  • Undertake general laboratory duties including sample preparation experiments investigations equipment setup and housekeeping.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and coordinate the replenishment of supplies and consumables
  • Maintain laboratory facilities equipment and records in compliance with quality safety and regulatory requirements.

About You:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant scientific discipline advantageous.
  • Understanding of the civil and construction industry advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of ISO and 14001.
  • Strong understanding of scientific methods technical and data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent analytical and report writing skills.
  • Hands on and proactive approach.
  • Professional positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to liase with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Current drivers licence and reliable transport.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and police check.
