Job Summary

This is a key statutory and technical role supporting safe accurate and compliant underground mining operations. You will lead mine surveying activities maintain accurate survey control and plans and provide practical technical support across mine planning development longwall and operational activities.

You will work closely with Mining Technical Services and operational teams to ensure survey information is accurate accessible and delivered in line with legislative site and company requirements.

What you will be doing

As the Registered Mine Surveyor you will:

  • Prepare maintain and certify statutory mine plans and survey records.
  • Maintain accurate underground and surface survey control.
  • Plan coordinate and complete underground survey activities.
  • Provide survey support for development longwall infrastructure and mine planning activities.
  • Ensure survey data field notes calculations designs and records are accurately maintained.
  • Review survey results and identify any discrepancies hazards or operational risks.
  • Provide technical advice to mine planning engineering and operational teams.
  • Oversee and authorise survey work completed by employees and contractors.
  • Maintain clear survey handovers between rosters and shifts.
  • Participate in incident investigations and complete surveys of relevant incident areas when required.
  • Ensure surveying activities comply with legislation recognised standards and the site Safety and Health Management System.
  • Support the development and mentoring of surveyors and other technical personnel.

Internal surveying standards require clear roster handovers and authorisation by the Registered Mine Surveyor before project survey work is undertaken


Qualifications :

What you will bring

To be successful you will ideally have:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Surveying or Spatial Science.
  • Current registration with the Surveyors Board of Queensland.
  • A current mining endorsement suitable for appointment as a Registered Mine Surveyor in Queensland coal mining.
  • Demonstrated experience in underground coal mine surveying.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation and mine surveying requirements.
  • Experience preparing maintaining and certifying statutory mine plans.
  • Practical experience with underground survey control traverses set-outs and mine development surveys.
  • Competency using modern survey equipment and relevant mine surveying software.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate technical records.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and operational teams.
  • A strong commitment to safety risk management and compliance.
  • A current Australian drivers licence.

The internal appointment requirements identify a relevant Surveying or Spatial Science qualification current competencies and registration with an appropriate mining endorsement. Queenslands Surveyors Board also states that mine plans must be certified by a registered surveyor with a mining endorsement.
