In northern and north-western NSW CareFlight provides a patient transport service coordinated by NSW Health. We operate three dedicated air ambulances from bases at Bankstown Airport in Sydney and Williamtown Airport in Newcastle. The service transports patients needing specialist care to and from major hospitals in Sydney and Newcastle.
As part of this service CareFlight operates a fleet of specially equipped road ambulances and fixed wing aircraft staffed by drivers pilots and specialist nurses to move patients between hospitals and our aircraft. CareFlight road ambulances and crews are stationed at Bankstown and Williamtown airports as well as in the regional centres of Port Macquarie Coffs Harbour Tamworth and Armidale.
The Role:
We are currently seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our dedicated Patient Transport Service team in Newcastle.
Key responsibilities include:
Effectively taking instructions regarding the care of patients during transfer
Collecting and recording patient information during transfers and providing effective handover.
Participating in the loading / unloading of patients pre and post transfer applying appropriate manual handling techniques and standard operating procedures.
Maintaining CareFlight standard operating procedures and clinical treatment protocols including adapting to changes.
Cleaning and restocking equipment / supplies at completion of patient transfer.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have the following:
Currently registered as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
Minimum of five years experience working in a critical care setting such as Emergency Intensive Care Coronary Care or High Dependency Unit
Current certification in ALS / APLS
Current IV cannulation certification
Ability to work under clinical practice guidelines
Comfortable working in confined spaces and able to meet the physical challenges that come with patient transfers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to take and provide clear instructions resolve problems quickly and manage conflict effectively
Current Drivers Licence
Current WWC clearance or the ability to obtain
The following will also be highly regarded:
Previous flight nursing experience or experience working in a patient transfer or retrieval setting.
Relevant post graduate qualifications
