Job Summary
TheSouth West Aboriginal Medical Service(SWAMS)is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper Wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) and as such only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.
SWAMS plays a crucial role in delivering services to the Peel community aiming to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering care. Through providing a culturally appropriate service to families at risk we are deeply committed to ensuring that we advocate to keep Aboriginal children safe at home with their families.
The Coordinator will lead the establishment and ongoing delivery of the Stream 1 Program within the Regional Support Hub Bindjareb providing oversight and support to two Case Workers. The role will ensure services are culturally appropriate responsive to community needs and delivered in accordance with SWAMS and Department of Communities requirements.
The Coordinator will oversee client record keeping reporting obligations and program outcomes while also supporting the Service Network phone service to connect clients with the services and supports they need.
Essential Criteria:
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent in accordance with Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act.
- An understanding of the Children and Community Services Act 2004 and its application when working with children and families.
- Knowledge of the developmental needs of children and young people with a commitment to supporting their wellbeing and safety.
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture values and the contemporary issues impacting Aboriginal people with the ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with children families communities and stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear accurate and meaningful reports.
- Ability to regularly travel to regional offices to oversee staff from Waroona Pinjarra travel also to Bunbury once per month.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to contribute positively as part of a supportive team.
- The ability to build positive partnerships and work confidently with government and non-government agencies community groups and service providers to achieve the best outcomes for families.
- Well-developed problem-solving analytical and case management skills with a strengths-based approach to supporting children and families.
You must have a:
- Valid and current Drivers Licence
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check
- Valid Employee Working with Children Check
