The Opportunity
Join KBRs Armoured Fighting Vehicle Branch (AFVB) and play a key role in delivering robust Quality Assurance (QA) outcomes across complex Defence programs from acceptance Introduction Into Service (IIS) and transition to sustainment. The breadth of delivered capability includes Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) mission systems training systems and support system equipment.
Based at H-ACE Avalon and Victoria Barracks Melbourne the Quality Assurance Manager will establish lead and maintain a hands-on QA function that ensures all materiel entering service is safe compliant configuration-controlled and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage Supplier and Government Quality Assurance (SQA/GQA) activities across vehicles training systems and support equipment.
- Plan and conduct progressive assurance physical audits inspections and assessments at HACE and supplier facilities.
- Act as lead auditor conducting production tests supplier system and process audits in accordance with Defence QA frameworks AQAP and ISO standards.
- Direct and oversee witnessing of Factory Acceptance Testing and equivalent verification activities.
- Review and validate acceptance artefacts including inspection checklists test evidence (e.g. FAT/QTI equivalents) serial and configuration data.
- Raise manage and support closure of Quality Assurance Corrective Action Requests using objective evidence.
- Direct appropriate treatment of defects including rectification rejection or deviation pathways ensuring consistency across equipment types.
- Work closely with Configuration and Rework personnel to ensure Work Completion Certificates (WCCs) close qualityrelated rework appropriately.
- Provide authoritative QA advice to project leadership engineering IIS and sustainment teams
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Mandatory
- Extensive QA experience with complex systems or platforms (e.g. vehicles training systems or similar).
- Proven experience providing technical acceptance recommendations to customers.
- Hands-on experience conducting production and acceptance inspections and audits.
- Strong knowledge of QA governance corrective actions deviation management and evidence-based decision-making.
- Formal Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001 AQAP IRCA JAS-ANZ or equivalent recognised by Defence) with practical application.
- Audit experience across quality management systems and related compliance domains.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings specifications and test/inspection evidence.
- Experience managing non-conforming materiel including rejection or withholding acceptance.
- Technical trade qualification.
- Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance Australian citizenship and ITAR compliance required to be eligible.
Desirable
- Experience in Defence acquisition acceptance or sustainment environments.
- Experience with training systems simulation or specialist tools and equipment (S&TE).
- Experience establishing or leading QA capability within complex programs.
- Familiarity with Defence ERP and AIMS systems.
