About the role

Play a key role in evolving Western Australias energy markets through targeted reform. Within AEMOs WA Market Development and Energy Procurement division the WA Distributed Markets team is leading the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

As a Principal Analyst you will apply deep expertise across energy markets systems and processes to assess influence and implement market reforms aligned with AEMOs strategy. You will represent AEMOs interests while working closely with internal teams industry and policy makers to progress market development outcomes.

This position is an 18-month fixed-term contract.

What you will be doing

  • Represent AEMO in Project Jupiter a multi-year cross organisational project to integrate DER into the WEM and SWIS ensuring that AEMO is represented adequately in working groups and system and market operator requirements are delivered
  • Provide technical expertise and business leadership to support the design and internal implementation of DER reforms including new systems processes and transition to operation; with a focus on practical cost-effective and timely delivery.
  • Influence reform direction and outcomes by working closely with industry regulators and policy makers contributing to policy development rule drafting and stakeholder consultation.
  • Contribute to AEMOs input into complex market reforms government initiatives and market reviews collaborating across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support operational issue resolution broader market development activities and team capability through guidance oversight and mentoring.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualification in economics engineering or a related analytical discipline (e.g. IT computer science business law regulation or policy).
  • Significant experience in complex analytical regulatory or operational roles within the energy utilities or comparable sectors with a strong understanding of energy markets DER and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong industry credibility with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships and influence stakeholders across complex environments.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly through high-quality written reports and presentations supported by strong communication negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience leading or contributing to complex projects across teams and organisations with the ability to provide guidance and support to others; prior people leadership experience is advantageous.
