From the Delegate Register Orthopaedic Surgeons can be deployed internationally by the Red Cross to support operations and provide professional assistance to individuals and communities impacted by humanitarian disasters or conflicts. Deployments typically range in duration from three to six months and are note that recruitment to the Delegate Register does not guarantee employment with Red Cross. It does however place the individual on standby to deploy and enables suitable preparation and training for deployment should the need arise. Deployments take place through fixed-term contracts with delegates seconded into the operations of the ICRC or all activities Australian Red Cross delegates staff volunteers and members are guided by the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Neutrality Impartiality Independence Voluntary Service Unity read more on these principles visithttps:// Surgeon Position SummaryThe orthopaedic surgeon functions as part of a surgical team and provides direct clinical services and/or supports in-country hospital teams to improve the quality of medical and surgical care through diagnosing treating preventing and rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries and diseases both surgically and non-surgically. The role assists with the organisation and management of medical and clinical services in close collaboration with local medical and hospital counterparts. The orthopaedic surgeon ensures the continuity of care and respect for medical ethics and patient confidentiality. They work in local or Red Cross hospital structures often in limited resources settings and challenging security environments. Essential RequirementsCitizen or permanent resident of spoken and written B2 (CEFR standard) in a second language (French).Extensive (3 years or greater) professional experience as aligned with the technical and behavioural competencies (outlined below).Previous international humanitarian and/or development experience in low-income countries (non-government organisations international organisations or charity).Minimum availability to deploy for 3 months and with 4 weeks Qualifications and Professional RegistrationsUniversity degree in medicine with specialisation in orthopaedic registration with Medical Board of Australia through AHPRA.
