Operations Engineer Geelong Based

The Operations Engineer will be based at Viva Energy Australia at our Geelong Refinery. You will play a critical role in supporting the reliability availability and lifecycle management of essential Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems across the refinery and associated supply chain infrastructure. This role ensures the stability security and compliance of network server application and data centre environments that underpin safe continuous refinery operations.

A key focus of the role is providing handson infrastructure and systems support to refinery operations teams including the Control Room Field Operations Laboratories and Reliability teams. Working at the intersection of industrial operations cyber security and enterprise infrastructure the Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining secure integration between refinery OT systems and Viva Energys enterprise IT platforms always ensuring operational resilience and performance.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Provide handson operational support for core IT and OT systems supporting refinery and supply chain operations.
• Support and maintain critical platforms including process historians refinery operations systems machinery monitoring and industrial applications at the IT/OT boundary.
• Own incident response troubleshooting vendor engagement and system availability for operationally critical environments.
• Support network operations across refinery and remote sites including switching firewalls segmentation patching and monitoring.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for incidents changes and problem management aligned to ITIL ServiceNow MYOSH and MOC processes.
• Provide onsite and oncall support to Control Room and operations teams responding calmly to highimpact operational events.
• Support IT/OT integration ensuring secure connectivity between control systems historians and enterprise platforms in line with IEC 62443.
• Maintain and support server virtualisation and data centre environments including VMware and associated infrastructure.
• Contribute to lifecycle management technology refresh and operational resilience initiatives.
• Support refinery cyber security compliance vulnerability remediation and assurance activities (SOCI Act Essential Eight).

Qualifications :

Essential

• Strong experience supporting enterprise and industrial IT infrastructure in operational or critical environments.
• Handson experience with networking servers virtualisation firewalls and endpoint platforms.
• Experience supporting Windows and Linux environments.
• Strong troubleshooting incident response and stakeholder communication skills.
• Familiarity with IT/OT integration and operating in safetycritical environments.

Desirable

• Experience in refinery oil & gas utilities or heavy industrial environments.
• Exposure to OT systems control networks or industrial applications.
• Relevant certifications (Cisco VMware Microsoft cyber/security platforms).
