An exciting opportunity is now available for a full-time Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead our dynamic team on 1 East a thriving surgical ward delivering high-quality care across urology gastroenterology general surgery and breast surgery.
In this pivotal leadership role youll drive clinical excellence shape patient outcomes and lead a passionate team dedicated to compassionate patient-centred care.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director Clinical & Maternity Services you will combine your expert clinical knowledge with innovative leadership to guide a high-performing multidisciplinary team. Youll play a key role in leading change improving outcomes and delivering safe exceptional care in a respected environment.
What Youll Be Doing
- Providing strong visible leadership to the surgical nursing team
- Overseeing day-to-day operational management of the unit
- Coordinating and optimising patient care delivery
- Driving performance by monitoring and achieving key KPIs
- Mentoring and developing ANUMs and emerging nurse leaders
- Collaborating closely with medical and allied health teams
- Championing clinical governance quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Managing patient assessments and complex clinical presentations
About You
Youre a motivated and experienced Registered Nurse leader who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional care.
You will bring:
- A minimum of 5 years experience at ANUM level (or equivalent senior leadership experience)
- Strong clinical expertise in acute general surgical nursing (highly regarded)
- A collaborative supportive and engaging leadership style
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to prioritise manage time and lead effectively
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Passion for patient-centred high-quality outcomes

Position Description     Inherent Requirements
Qualifications :
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through AHPRA
- Relevant management qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma in Health Management or equivalent) or working towards / willingness to commence within an agreed timeframe
- Postgraduate qualification in perioperative surgical nursing or a related specialty area relevant to General Surgery
- Current membership with an appropriate professional body (e.g. Australian College of Nursing or similar)
