About the area

The Office of the DeputyVice-Chancellor (Indigenous) is responsible for leading the University of Western Australias Indigenous Education Strategy which encompasses all areas of the Universitys activities. The DVCI provides strategic leadership of the School of Indigenous Studies and is responsible for the operations and strategic developments of the Berndt Museum and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. Through these entities the office is responsible for delivering multidisciplinary teaching and research programs and providing specialised support and services to current and future Indigenous students.

Founded in 1976 the Berndt Museum of Anthropology is the Universitys major collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture. Additionally the museum houses materials from the Asia-Pacific region including items from Papua New Guinea Indonesia Japan India and Korea. Established as a research museum it is considered to be one of the most significant collections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and cultural material globally with materials included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

About the opportunity

• Coordinate and maintain the care documentation storage handling movement and display of the Berndt Museums collections and archives.
• Coordinate collection and archive management activities including registration record keeping access maintenance and pest management procedures.
• Assist with exhibition preparation installation and the delivery of Museum programs and projects.

About you

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities in the area of cultural maintenance with an understanding of culturally sensitive issues.
• High-level computer literacy including the ability to accurately record manage research and process information using databases and standard software applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications databases internet and email systems.
• Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
