About NAAFLS

The North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering culturally safe legal and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing domestic family and sexual violence across the Top End.

With offices in Darwin Katherine and Nhulunbuy our work is grounded in cultural respect community collaboration and self-determination. We provide holistic wraparound support through our legal services child protection and family law programs Leaving Violence Program and Miyalk Safehouse helping create safer futures for Aboriginal families and communities.

About the Role

NAAFLS is leading the delivery of the Leaving Violence Program Top End Regional Trial providing culturally safe practical and financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing family violence. The NAAFLS-led Top End Regional trial forms part of a national expansion of the Leaving Violence Program with trials run concurrently in Cairns Broome and Dubbo.

We are seeking a compassionate and organised LVP Intake and Administration Officer to join our team in Darwin. As the first point of contact for many clients you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe welcoming and culturally responsive environment for Aboriginal victim-survivors accessing support through the Leaving Violence Program (LVP).

Reporting to the LVP Coordinator you will support the coordination of client intake processes assist with referrals and appointments maintain accurate records and work collaboratively with legal intake and case work teams to ensure clients are connected with the right services in a timely and culturally safe manner.

This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills a strong commitment to cultural safety and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal clients communities and stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and who understands the importance of culturally safe trauma-informed and client-centred service delivery.

Selection Criteria

Essential criteria:

  • Strong understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal communities in the Top End including domestic family and sexual violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal clients and community members.
  • Experience in an administrative reception or client service role.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office and database or case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to culturally safe trauma-informed and client-centred service delivery.
  • Willingness to undertake professional development and training as required.
  • Must obtain a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
  • Possess a current C Class NT Drivers Licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within the community services legal health or Aboriginal Community Controlled sector.
  • Understanding of legal and support service systems relating to domestic family and sexual violence.
  • Qualifications in administration community services or a related field.
