About The Team

The College of Environmental and Life Sciences (ELS) was established in 2023 to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration enhance academic expertise and advance excellence in research and teaching across the life sciences.

The College comprises four Schools:

Agricultural Sciences

Environmental and Conservation Sciences

Medical Molecular and Forensic Sciences

The School of Medical Molecular and Forensic Sciences (MMFS) is dedicated to developing critically minded scientists equipped with both strong theoretical foundations and practical skills to lead future advances in their fields. The Schools research spans diverse and impactful areas including human health infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance immunology cancer biology food production and quality nutrition and forensic science.

MMFS offers engaging undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience. A key element of this role will be to teach into and support the quality of the professionally accredited Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine.

Your New Role!

A Lecturer (Level B) academic will undertake independent teaching and research in their discipline or related research and/or scholarship and/or teaching a Level B academic will make an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise and coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff as appropriate to the discipline. A Level B academic will normally contribute to teaching at undergraduate honours and postgraduate level engage in independent scholarship and/or research and/or professional activities appropriate to their profession or discipline. They will normally undertake administration primarily relating to their activities at the institution and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the coordination of an award program of the institution

A Senior Lecturer (Level C) academic will make a significant contribution to the discipline at the national research and/or scholarship and/or teaching they will make original contributions which expand knowledge or practice in their discipline. A Level C academic will normally make a significant contribution to research and/or scholarship and/or teaching and administration activities of an organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area at undergraduate honours and postgraduate level. They will normally play a major role or provide a significant degree of leadership in scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession discipline and/or community and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the coordination of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs of the institution.

Your Key responsibilities will include

• Development delivery assessment review and coordination of units in the Master of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control and the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine.
• Developing and growing a research program integrating postgraduate training and supervision in medical microbiology immunology and/or clinical immunology and/or related fields that complement the teaching and research activities of the School and University.
• Developing strong industry linkages to enhance teaching experiences for students and/or grow research partnerships and collaborations.
• Contributing to the activities required by the course and School to ensure ongoing review and improvements to the Master of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control.
• Contributing to the activities required by the course and School to ensure professional accreditation of the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine.

Lecturer (Level B): $115512-$136831 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

Senior Lecturer (Level C): $141088-$162403 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What youll bring to the role:

• Professional experience in one or more areas of microbiology immunology clinical immunology and/or related areas of biomedical science such as molecular biology and/or bioinformatics.
• Previous experience in the development design coordination and delivery of undergraduate units in microbiology immunology and/or clinical immunology and/or related fields at the tertiary level.
• An established or developing track record of research outputs in microbiology and/or immunology and/or related fields.
• An ability to teach into another area of the biomedical sciences such as molecular biology molecular genetics or Laboratory Medicine such as clinical microbiology and/or related fields.

Specific Qualifications

Eligibility to be a member of a professional body such as the Australian Society of Microbiology (ASM) Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) or related organisation.
