Lead Security Architect Federal Government Cloud Migration Programme
Location: Australia (Customer Site) Canberra onsite
Security Clearance: NV1 Security Clearance (Mandatory)
Role Purpose
The Lead Security Architect owns the security architecture for a wave-based application migration and modernisation programme delivered into a highly secure federal government environment working alongside the Project Delivery Lead who holds ultimate ownership of the programme overall and the Lead Cloud Migration Architect who owns the technical outcome across application infrastructure and cloud data and business architecture.
This role ensures the migration approach target architecture and tooling/AI usage align with the customers security policies and procedures and with the Australian Governments security and AI governance frameworks including the Information Security Manual (ISM) the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) the Essential Eight and IRAP assurance practices. The Lead Security Architect engages closely with the customers cybersecurity leadership and architecture teams represents Unisys in the customers security governance forums and acts as the programmes security subject matter expert providing expertise into the assessment strategy migration planning and architecture functions.
Essential Skills Knowledge and Experience
Professional Experience
Extensive years of experience in security architecture cybersecurity consulting or security engineering with demonstrated depth and breadth across cloud infrastructure identity network and endpoint security.
Proven experience delivering security architecture for complex large-scale application migration programmes to Azure and AWS target clouds.
Experience working within government or other highly regulated environments including experience supporting Australian Government
Experience conducting security assessments architecture reviews and remediation planning and supporting projects through design implementation and operational transition.
Track record of owning the security architecture outcome of a customer-facing programme alongside a delivery lead and a technical/enterprise architecture lead with a clear division of accountability between the three.
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of the Information Security Manual (ISM) the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) the Essential Eight and security assurance practices including IRAP.
Practical knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure and AWS) infrastructure networking endpoint security and identity technologies including modern authentication and privileged access management.
Working knowledge of Australian Government AI governance including the Policy for the Responsible Use of AI in Government its AI Impact Assessment Tool the National AI Centres Guidance for AI Adoption and the National AI Plan for the Australian Public Service sufficient to assess proposed AI tooling for a federal government customer.
Familiarity with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) the Privacy Act 1988 and the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA) as they bear on security and data-handling obligations.
Leadership and Stakeholder Skills
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across business technical and executive audiences including CISOs and governance boards.
Ability to lead and develop a team of security architects while remaining hands-on with technical detail.
Strong judgement in balancing security risk delivery pace and innovation particularly when assessing new tooling or AI capability for a security-conscious customer.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity Information Technology Computer Science Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
NV1 Security Clearance (Mandatory).
