Job Summary

Your role

You will be a part of our ESG Hub based in Melbourne.

This is your opportunity to make your mark within a growth space providing expert legal advice across a broad range of ESG and climate change matters. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a newly expanded highperforming team. You will work closely with market leading sustainability lawyers Jillian Button and Sarah Barker in a market leading team focused on climate and sustainability risk governance disclosures strategy projects and compliance.

In joining our team you will work collaboratively with a variety of practice groups in Melbourne as well as across jurisdictions. As an expert in your field you will advise blue chip clients on climate change nature sustainability carbon offsetting and other ESG matters.

Your day:

  • Advise on mandatory climate related disclosures.

  • Advise on voluntary ESG disclosures and greenwashing.

  • Advise on climate and nature governance matters.

  • Advise on biodiversity conservation biodiversity risk disclosure and nature positive transactions.

  • Advise on climate change matters including carbon farming and net zero strategy.

  • Assist clients to develop ESG policies in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Advise on contractual arrangements with respect to ESG issues.

  • Assist clients to respond to ESG related investigations regulatory actions and litigation.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity however flexibility matters at Allens so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.

About you

You will have:

  • Some ESG experience and expertise ideally gained from working with a well-regarded top tier firm international firm Australian firm or boutique firm.

  • We are also interested in hearing from people with in-house experience looking to make a return to private practice.

  • A willingness to build an understanding of clients and develop effective working relationships.

  • An ability to effectively manage matters.

  • A willingness to participate in business development activities such as pitch documents firm-wide pursuits article writing attending industry events and hosting seminars.

  • A desire and ability to grow as an ESG Lawyer.

  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks.

  • A desire to learn grow network mentor others
