Whatsthejob
The primary role of theLaboratory Assistantis to support the Laboratory Coordinator and the Laboratory team to ensure that they can perform their duties effectively. The Laboratory Assistant works under the line management of the National Laboratory Manager and day-to-day supervision of a Laboratory Coordinator.

The Laboratory Assistant helps to improve the efficiency of the organization by enhancing the productivity of the Laboratory Coordinator and of the specialist teaching laboratories. This allows the Laboratory Coordinator and others in the Laboratory Team to focus on other core tasks while the Laboratory Assistant takes care of more menial tasks and other responsibilities associated with preparing laboratory-based teaching sessions and spaces.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

Working closely with the Laboratory Coordinator National Laboratory Manager Laboratory Technician and Academic staff:

  • ensure stocks of teaching materials are maintained

  • class set up for simulations and assessments

  • printing of learning materials asrequired

  • cleaning refillingrelabellingand restocking of equipment / consumables

  • recycling of suitable equipment

  • ensuring laboratory spaces are clean and tidy

  • other duties asdeterminedon acase-by-casebasis

This is a casual position based at our Brisbane campus requiring approximately 12 to 15 hours per week. The rostered schedule is Monday afternoons Tuesday afternoons and Friday afternoons. Some flexibility is preferred as there may be opportunities to cover additional shifts when required.

As this role involves manual handling tasks the recruitment process will include a functional capability assessment for the preferred candidate.
