About the Role

The Koori Womens Place delivers culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal women facing family this role you will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to understand their needs and connect them with the right support from material aid and case management to legal services and counselling. When safety concerns arise you will work alongside the Community Engagement team to assess risk coordinate warm referrals for family violence risk assessments and help develop immediate safety plans.

You will also support the team to run a program of cultural and wellbeing activities that give Aboriginal women a place to gather share and feel empowered. This is an outreach role so youll travel to locations across Victoria to attend community events and deliver programs where women need them. This is a job for someone who brings warmth humour and flexibility to a team.

What Youll Do
  • Create a welcoming culturally safe space for Aboriginal women at the Koori Womens Place
  • Support women experiencing family violence including warm referrals safety planning and emergency relief
  • Help plan and run KWPs cultural and wellbeing workshops from setup to attendance records
  • Represent Djirra at community events and the Sisters Day Out Program across Victoria
  • Build relationships with donors and external organisations to strengthen referral pathways

Who You Are
  • You understand family violence and the drivers behind violence against women
  • You have worked with Aboriginal organisations communities or individuals before
  • You have planned workshops events or gatherings
  • Experience working with Aboriginal women is a strong plus
  • You build genuine connections with Aboriginal communities and communicate with care around trauma
  • Youre comfortable with the Microsoft suite of tools
  • You hold a current drivers licence and can travel for out-of-hours or overnight work when needed

Requirements
  • A Victorian Employees Working with Childrens Check card or willing to obtain one
  • Willing to obtain a Police Check at Djirras expense
  • Drivers License
  • Experience working in Aboriginal organisations and the community in roles requiring knowledge and intuitive skills to support Aboriginal women.
