Your newrole

As a Casual Kitchen Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the Meals Service Program to deliver high-quality nutritious meals in a safe welcoming and respectful environment. You will contribute to providing an effective compassionate service that reflects Sacred Heart Missions values while meeting all relevant legislative food safety and funding requirements.

Working as part of a dedicated kitchen team you will assist in the preparation service and clean-up of approximately 300 meals each day for people experiencing homelessness disadvantage and social isolation. Your role is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of the Meals Program by maintaining high standards of food hygiene cleanliness and customer service.

You will also work collaboratively with volunteers and Sacred Heart Mission staff helping to create a positive and inclusive dining experience where every participant is treated with dignity respect and kindness. Through your contribution you will help make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in our community.

Your day-to-day
  • Assist with the cleaning preparation and service of nutritious breakfast and lunch meals supporting the delivery of over 300 meals each day.
  • Support the planning preparation and coordination of weekly menus in collaboration with the kitchen team.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety hygiene cleanliness and infection control in accordance with legislative requirements and organisational policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chef and other team members to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the Meals Program.
  • Support and work alongside volunteers providing guidance and fostering a welcoming and inclusive team environment.
  • Receive inspect and appropriately store food deliveries and donated goods ensuring effective stock rotation and minimising food waste.
  • Maintain a safe organised and well-equipped kitchen environment identifying and reporting maintenance or safety concerns as required.
  • Contribute to a positive respectful and inclusive workplace culture that reflects Sacred Heart Missions values.
  • Demonstrate safe and responsible work practices including compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Provide compassionate and respectful service to participants recognising the diverse needs of people experiencing homelessness disadvantage and social isolation.

Were looking for
  • Able to do weekend and weekday shifts
  • Whilst not a requirement a Certificate II or III in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) or Safe Food Handling and Manual Handling Certificate will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations in relation to food hygiene standards and workplace safety
  • A proven ability to manage the kitchen & laundry environment in a safe and responsible manner
  • An ability to work independently as well as be an effective team member

  • $30.04 rate per hour casual loading of 25%.
