About The Role and Team

The Quantum Hardware Team specialises in designing validating and operating quantum processors based on silicon industrial technology.

As a Quantum Engineering Intern you will work closely with our senior engineers and researchers to assist in the design testing and optimization of quantum hardware. This role is designed for students or recent graduates who are passionate about quantum mechanics and eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced deep-tech environment.

Our team of 110 is based in the UK (Oxford and London) Australia (Sydney) Spain (SanSebastián) and the US.

Functions of the Role

  • Hardware Support: Assist in the assembly and testing of control circuits and cryogenic measurement setups.

  • Data Analysis: Develop and refine Python scripts for automated data collection and analysis of qubit performance metrics.

  • Experimental Execution: Support the execution of calibration routines and characterization experiments under the guidance of the hardware team.

  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of experimental setups results and technical workflows.

Experience - Essentials

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor physics
  • Good understanding of quantum mechanics
  • Strong skills in electronics laboratory techniques including soldering wiring and circuit debugging
  • Familiarity with data acquisition software (Python) and the ability to analyse and visualise experimental data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience - Desirable

  • Strong understanding of quantum mechanics and quantum devices
  • e.g. familiarity with quantum dot characterisation techniques such as charge and spin transport measurements
  • Basic knowledge of quantum information systems and operations
  • Familiarity with the use of high-frequency electronics: AWGs RF and MW signal generators IQ (de)modulators
  • Ability to assist in designing and carrying out experiments; assist in data analysis and preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Basic knowledge of digital communications techniques (SPI JTAG etc.)
Note: The desirable experience requirements are not necessary for the role but would be considered as an advantage for the candidate.
