Role Overview

The Intake and Brief Intervention Clinician plays a critical role within the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team providing initial assessment intake and short-term therapeutic intervention for clients accessing wellbeing services.
Working within a culturally safe trauma-informed framework this role supports individuals experiencing mental health and psychosocial challenges through risk assessment safety planning and brief intervention. The role also involves coordinating care pathways and connecting clients with specialist services to ensure holistic wraparound support.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive intake assessments including mental health psychosocial and risk assessments (including MARAM screening)
Provide crisis assessment intervention and support for clients experiencing acute mental health or psychosocial distress
Develop and implement individual treatment and wellbeing plans
Deliver short-term case management and psycho-social support interventions
Coordinate referrals to internal and external services including specialist mental health care
Provide secondary consultation and mental health advice to MDAS staff
Maintain accurate and timely client records and data reporting
Support group programs community engagement activities and SEWB initiatives
Escalate high-risk cases appropriately and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Skills Knowledge and Experience

Minimum 2 years experience in mental health case management or a related field
Demonstrated experience in mental health assessments risk assessment and trauma-informed care
Strong knowledge of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks
Ability to deliver culturally safe client-centred services
Strong communication interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate documentation

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Psychology Social Work or a related discipline (essential)

Current Victorian Drivers Licence
Current Working with Children Check
Current National Police Check
