Humanitarian Protection Generalist (international humanitarian register)Applications close Wednesday 3 June 2026Australian Red Cross is seeking skilled Humanitarian Protection Generalists to join our International Delegate (aid worker) Register. From the Delegate Register Humanitarian Protection Generalists (the ICRC Generalist) can be deployed internationally to support operations of the International Committee of The Red Cross (ICRC) and provide professional assistance to communities impacted by humanitarian disasters or addition to English a second working language is required (details below). Deployments typically last for 12 months and are note that recruitment to the Delegate Register does not guarantee employment with Red Cross. It does however place the individual on standby to deploy and enables suitable preparation and training for deployment should the need arise. It comprises the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (Federation) and 192 National Societies. The RCRC mandate is to protect and support populations experiencing conflicts disasters and other maintains an active register of highly screened and trained humanitarian workers (referred to as delegates within the Red Cross) who are deployed to international crises when local capacity is overwhelmed or where additional specialist resources are required. Deployments take place through fixed-term contracts with delegates seconded into the operations of the ICRC or all activities Australian Red Cross delegates staff volunteers and members are guided by the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Neutrality Impartiality Independence Voluntary Service Unity read more on these principles visithttps:// SummaryAs an ICRC Generalist delegate your main duties will include:Situation Analysis: Contribute to comprehensive assessments of the general situation including security protection concerns and the humanitarian needs of affected populations aligning actions with the Delegations strategic Development: Forge and nurture connections within your area of responsibility engaging with diverse stakeholders such as affected communities Armed groups local authorities NGOs National Red Cross/Red Crescent societies community leaders Operations: Conduct field missions to assess the situation and evaluate protection concerns of victims of armed conflict and other forms of violence ensuring timely and appropriate responses. Protection Activities: Implement contextual protection priorities such as facilitating detainee visits reuniting family members separated by wars and other situations of violence and documenting violations of international humanitarian law and human rights and Collaboration: Collaborate with ICRC departments and the broader Red Cross/Red Crescent movement actively contributing to the implementation of protection and assistance of IHL: Plan and conduct dissemination sessions on IHL ICRC activities and mandate to target audiences fostering awareness and Management: Develop and maintain a dialogue with relevant actors including security force and arms carriers to ensure security guarantees for ICRC field operations. Continuously monitor the security environment promptly and regularly draft reports and share updates on security incidents with relevant and Leadership: Produce timely and confidential internal and external reports adhering to protocols and ensuring proper follow-up. Occasionally take on leadership roles within teams as Qualifications Bachelors degree or higher qualification in a related field (International Law International Relations International Development Human Rights) Experience in Protection services such as detention judicial guarantees missing persons and their families protection of civilians internal displacement migration community-based protection Gender-based Violence child protection urban violence etc.) is considered an Essential RequirementsCitizen or permanent resident of spoken and written English (CEFR standard C1 or C2)Level B2 (CEFR standard) in a second language (French Arabic Spanish Russian)2 years of experience in humanitarian services including at least 3 months worked internationally in a related field (protection IHL diplomacy development assistance)Digital Literacy including ability navigate digital devices (laptops smartphones) analyse web-based information and work effectively with the Microsoft Office suite of to drive a manual motivation to provide humanitarian assistance to individuals and communities impacted by disasters or armed to adapt to and function effectively in challenging living conditions and potentially unstable security to work effectively while under pressure and within multicultural to deploy for assignments of 12 months.
