Hospital Medical Officer

Are you a PGY3 doctor seeking a flexible hospital-based role that offers valuable inpatient experience. Employment attracts a rate of $120 per hour plus Medicare Billings; you can commit to a few nights a week or the whole week. The choice is yours.

This role is ideally suited to a clinician looking to supplement existing commitments without the demands of an Emergency Department while maintaining exposure to acute inpatient care in a supportive private hospital environment.

About the Role

As the sole onsite medical practitioner overnight (no supervision and no sponsorship) you will work closely with our nursing teams with access to escalation and support from our Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) when required. Your role will be integral to maintaining safe high-quality care for admitted patients throughout the night. Accommodation is provided and you will sleep on site to be available to respond to any escalations overnight.

Importantly St Vincents Private Hospital has no Emergency Department allowing you to focus on the management and assessment of inpatients rather than emergency presentations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overnight medical coverage for hospital inpatients
• Review and assess deteriorating patients
• Respond to clinical concerns raised by nursing staff
• Perform admissions clinical reviews and documentation as required
• Liaise with treating specialists regarding patient management
• Support safe patient care and clinical governance standards

To be successful in this role you will possess:

• Current AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner (Limited Registration will not be considered)
• Minimum PGY3 experience
• Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Ability to work independently while accessing specialist support as required
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Availability for fortnightly overnight shifts throughout the contract period
