Job Summary

Your Role at St John of God Geraldton Hospital

As Head Chef you will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of foods required for patients and caregivers and provide leadership to the catering team whilst maintaining high levels of food quality and service consistent with SJGHC standards Mission Vision and Values and in accordance with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

A Chef Trade Certificate or Cert III in Commercial Cookery will be essential for this role.

The Position

  • Preparation cooking serving and delivery of food as directed by the requirements of the daily menus and production schedule.

  • Implement document and monitor the Food Safety Program and comply with the HACCAP principals as well as the completion of relevant paperwork.

  • Manage all catering supplies including ordering and monitor to ensure adequate supplies available according to the menu and budget.

  • Motivate manage and inspiring a diverse team of employees including Chefs Cooks Kitchen hands and Catering Assistants.

  • Provides in the moment performance management in a manner that enhances caregivers skills and engages their motivation to improve.

  • Provides regular feedback on the Catering Department and key performance indicators to the line supervisor for Corporate Services.

  • Promote a positive safety culture within your area by demonstrating a positive commitment to OHS.

  • Provides leadership and advice on catering policies and practices.

  • Provides regular feedback on the Catering Department and key performance indicators to the line supervisor for Corporate Services.

  • Formulates a fourteen day cycle menu with recipes in accordance with dietary needs.

  • Provide immediate response and thoroughly investigate any food related customer complaint. Follow through actions and lessons learned with direct reports and catering caregivers.


To succeed you will hold a recognised Chef Trade Certificate or Cert III in Commercial Cookery; possess experience in recruiting performance management rostering budgets and general business management.

You will demonstrate recent experience as a Head Chef in a hospital hospitality or similar environment and the ability to form productive relationships with team members patients caregivers individuals and suppliers from diverse backgrounds.

  • Salary: $92096 to $94620 (from July 2026) per annum plus 12% superannuation

  • Permanent full-time position available working 76 hours per fortnight
