About the area

The Molecular Acclimation Laboratory at the School of Molecular Sciences is nationally funded research group that focuses on a range of topics in Agriculture and Biomedical Science including the molecular genetic mechanisms that control crop growth and yield and the impact of environmental factors on crop health and productivity. It also investigates the molecular responses of mammalian systems to drug treatment and exposure to environmental compounds. The lab uses high-throughput phenotyping tools including FTIR and hyperspectral imaging metabolic analysis (multiomic mass spectrometry) and field analysis to determine changes in metabolic processes that influence health yield and acclimation. The lab works with academia and industry to evaluate its findings for new insights applications and future research opportunities.

About the opportunity

  • Participate in the coordination of research for the collection of agricultural data using spectral IRGA and fluorescence sensors assist with plant tissue sampling and undertake sample preparation for metabolomics analyses.
  • Collect and record high-quality agricultural spectral IRGA and fluorescence data assist with plant tissue sampling from field sites and perform the preparation and acquisition of metabolomics data using established analytical workflows.
  • Record organise and assist with the analysis of experimental data including metabolomics datasets to contribute to reports publications and research outcomes.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in agriculture plant science biochemistry metabolomics or a related discipline an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Substantial experience in agricultural research including field-based data collection plant tissue sampling and the preparation acquisition and analysis of metabolomics data.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed organisational and planning skills with demonstrated ability to set priorities coordinate field and laboratory activities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency in a range of computing applications including word processing spreadsheets databases internet and email with experience using software for metabolomics data processing and statistical analysis being highly desirable.
