Norton Rose Fulbrights Canberra office is growing and we areseeking a Graduate Lawyer or Lawyer to join ourPublic Law team. This is a unique opportunity to work alongsideleading practitioners advising and representing CommonwealthGovernment clients on complex and high-profile administrative lawlitigation and regulatory matters. Our national government practicehas long-standing relationships with Commonwealth State andTerritory agencies and is recognised as a trusted adviser togovernment on legal and regulatory issues.

Working closely with partners and senior lawyers you willadvise and represent Commonwealth agencies statutory officeholders and government entities across a broad range of mattersincluding:

• assisting with the litigated matters in the State Territory and Federal Courts and Tribunals (merits judicial review and common law claims)
• advising clients with respect to all aspects of legislation including statutory interpretation administrative law advice and decision-making
• drafting high-quality legal advice submissions and Court and Tribunal documents
• assisting clients to respond to inquiries such as Royal Commissions and investigations
• advising on privacy FOI and regulatory matters
• participating in secondment opportunities with the firms key clients

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Up to 2 years post-admission experience (government or private practice experience advantageous)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A genuine interest in public law government and litigation
• Strong analytical and research skills
• Strong drafting skills and developing skills in advocacy
• An ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
• Experience in litigation public law or regulatory law (advantageous)
• Willingness to apply for and obtain an AGSVA security clearance.
