About the team/About the role:

The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer so that no-oneneedface cancer alone.

TheLegal Financial andPractical Support Servicesteam provides support to people affected by cancer ensuring financiallegaland other practical needs are met throughout their cancer trajectory. The services offered include Financial Navigation FinancialCounsellingand the provision of temporary financial relief along with pro bono legal workplace and financial planning advice transport to treatment and accommodation is a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team made up of Financial Counsellors Pro Bono Legal Coordinators Transport and Accommodation Coordinators and Administrators who provide holistic and coordinated support to people affected by cancer.

The key purpose of the Financial Navigator is to provide holistic telephone-based financial informationtimelyguidance and service navigation support to people affected by cancer. The role focuses on reducing financial distress and hardship through early intervention empowering informed decision-making andfacilitatingaccess toappropriate specialistservices through needs assessment and triage to Financial Counselling Legal Services Financial Planning and other practical and emotional support services.

This role is suited to Financial Capability Workersand Diploma of Financial Counselling recent graduates or current students.

Please note this is apart-time 0.6FTE fixed term 12-month contract based in ourWoolloomooloohead office. We are looking for a candidate available toworkMonday Wednesdayto complement current team rostering however may consider one alternate day internally known as Financial Navigator

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Triage incoming referrals for cancer patients and carers seeking tailored financial information and support includingidentifyingfinancial issues and determiningappropriate internalor external support and/or servicesrequired ensuring clients access the right service at the right time.
  • Provide information and guidance on clients rights and options to manage financial issues from diagnosis through to survivorship including:
  • Preparing a budget and ongoing budgeting support
  • Understanding options to manage everyday expenses and debts
  • Help to access utility hardship programs and government concessions and payments and Income support options including Centrelink paymentssuperannuationand insurance entitlements.
  • Conductneeds andeligibility assessments for CCNSWs Financial Support Services and navigate clients to appropriate internal and external specialists (internal Financial Counsellors and external Financial Planners).
  • Identifyother legalpracticaland emotional needs of clients and collaborate with Practical Support Services and wider divisional staff to navigate clients to appropriate internal and external support services.

About you:

Essential:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services Work or equivalent or higher qualification (e.g. Diploma of Financial Counselling or Diploma of Community Services) including completion of Financial Literacy Education (CHCSS00077) units:-
  • CHCEDU005: Work with clients toidentifyfinancial literacy education needs.
  • CHCEDU006: Improve clients fundamental financial literacy skills.
  • CHCEDU007: Provide group education on consumer credit and debt.
  • Understanding of the needs of people experiencing financial hardship and coaching skills to improve financial literacy and management of finances.
  • Highlevelwritten and oral communication skills and experience communicating with vulnerable clients.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability toestablishand maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals.
  • Capacity to take initiative problem solve and adapt priorities asrequired.
  • Experience withmaintainingaccuraterecords and administrative systems.

Desirable:

  • Basic knowledge of or interest in oncology cancer services and the needs of persons affected by cancer.
  • 2 years experience in community services sector supporting clients with financial issues (e.g. as a Financial Capability Worker or Financial Counsellor).
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Engage and Case Management system.
