About the Role:

Reporting to the Operational Finance Lead with support from the CFO the Financial Accountant will be responsible for a range of general accounting and financial control activities including:

  • Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations including bank debtors creditors prepayments accruals GST and other general ledger accounts.
  • Investigating variances and unreconciled items and escalating material issues where required.
  • Preparing month-end journals and maintaining accurate supporting workpapers within agreed deadlines.
  • Assisting with annual audit schedules reconciliations and supporting documentation.
  • Responding to audit requests and maintaining clear records of supporting evidence.
  • Supporting compliance with relevant accounting standards funding requirements and organisational reporting obligations.
  • Applying accounting policies and procedures consistently and identifying opportunities to improve financial controls.
  • Reviewing selected transactions for accurate coding approvals GST treatment and compliance with organisational policies.
  • Supporting general ledger maintenance by identifying unusual balances misallocations and incomplete documentation.
  • Providing practical accounting support to the Finance team across the agreed scope of the role.

You will have:

We are looking for someone who isaccurate curious organised and trustworthy with a practical approach to accounting and financial problem-solving. Other requirements include:

  • Completed CPA CA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • A Bachelor degree in Accounting Commerce Business or a related discipline.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles month-end reconciliations general ledger processes GST and basic financial compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrable accounting or finance experience or a graduate Accountant background with strong reconciliation and transaction review capability.
  • Experience preparing reconciliations journals audit schedules and financial workpapers.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit community services aged care or similarly funded environment will be highly regarded.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and confidence using accounting or finance systems.
  • Ability to work independently manage competing priorities and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills including the ability to document workpapers and explain financial queries.
  • High level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial and organisational information.
  • A practical and curious mindset with the confidence to ask questions and investigate unusual transactions or balances.
  • A commitment to supporting sound financial controls and continuous improvement.
