About the Role

The Environmental Health Program Coordinator is responsible for driving the strategic growth coordination and impact of AMSANTs Environmental Health Program. The role provides high-level technical expertise workforce development support and advocacy to strengthen environmental health outcomes for Aboriginal communities across the Northern Territory.

Working closely with member services government and key stakeholders the role focuses on building capability expanding program reach and influencing policy and funding to address environmental health priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic growth and development of AMSANTs Environmental Health Program across the membership
  • Act as a trusted technical Environmental Health advisor to member organisations delivering or planning to deliver environmental health programs
  • Provide tailored technical support coaching and workforce development aligned to the needs strengths and readiness of individual member services
  • Identify broker and facilitate access to accredited and non-accredited training opportunities and coordinate all aspects of training delivery
  • Establish facilitate and sustain member networks and communities of practice to strengthen program reach sustainability and outcomes
  • Lead and elevate AMSANTs environmental health advocacy influencing policy funding and system reform to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities across the Northern Territory
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to expand AMSANTs Environmental Health Program in priority areas of need
  • Oversee the planning implementation and continuous improvement of AMSANTs environmental health activities
  • Work collaboratively with members to monitor evaluate and communicate program outcomes and impact
  • Other duties as directed by the WALS Manager

Selection Criteria (qualifications and attributes)

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health and a minimum of seven (7) years experience as an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) including substantial experience in the Northern Territory and remote communities
  • Strong understanding of environmental health challenges priorities and social and cultural determinants impacting Aboriginal communities across the Northern Territory
  • Demonstrated experience in workforce development including coaching and/or mentoring; experience within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) setting is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations government agencies local councils and non-government organisations
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively across cultures and communicate complex information clearly
  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills including the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake regular travel including to remote communities for extended periods

Desirable

  • Experience in policy development advocacy or system reform initiatives
  • Knowledge of relevant Northern Territory and Commonwealth environmental health legislation standards and frameworks
  • Experience in program monitoring evaluation and reporting
