Engineering Craft & Capability Lead
Job Summary
- You will turn engineering strategy and future skills needs into practical development priorities that help engineers build capability through doing sharing and contributing.
- Define engineering craft and capability priorities that support Catalyst modern engineering practices and Westpacs broader technology strategy.
- Create practical development mechanisms such as innovation time technical spikes hackathons engineering events mentoring and peer learning.
- Develop targeted certification and skills uplift programmes with People Learning technology vendors hyper-scalers engineering partners and industry bodies.
- Use Delivery Unit insight practitioner feedback and engineering signals to identify priority capability gaps and future skills needs.
- Build and support engineering communities that help practitioners learn from each other across Delivery Units.
- Connect capability uplift to engineering outcomes such as delivery effectiveness quality resilience productivity and developer experience.
- Provide clear insight and executive-level narrative on engineering craft capability priorities adoption and impact.
Key skills and experience will include:
- Senior experience in engineering leadership engineering capability software engineering platform engineering technology transformation developer experience or a related field.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and how they apply in regulated environments.
- Experience shaping capability uplift certification programmes communities of practice applied learning or practitioner development mechanisms.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers engineering leaders People Learning Workforce Planning and external partners.
- Strong appreciation of product-aligned delivery persistent teams Delivery Units and end-to-end engineering accountability.
- Experience or strong interest in AI-assisted engineering DevOps cloud secure engineering reliability platform engineering or developer experience.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to turn complex capability topics into clear choices recommendations and narratives.
