Job Summary
Position: EL1 Communications Professional
Organisation: Commonwealth Government Agency (Climate and Environmental Services Program)
Location: Canberra Melbourne or Brisbane
Start date: ASAP
Duration: 5 weeks
Pay rate: $78$85 per hour plus super
Security requirements: To be confirmed (Baseline or equivalent may be required depending on assignment)
Overview:
A Commonwealth Government climate-focused program is seeking an experienced communications professional to support the delivery of clear consistent and engaging content in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Reporting to the Program Manager within a national climate and environmental services initiative the Communications Lead will work closely with researchers technical specialists and program stakeholders to translate complex scientific and technical information into accessible communications products for a range of audiences.
Responsibilities:
Content Creation:
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and researchers to translate complex scientific and technical information into clear accessible language
- Develop 36 fact sheets articles or stories providing guidance background and technical information on program outputs
Channel Engagement:
- Ensure alignment of messaging across program areas to maintain consistency in communications
- Support content delivery across multiple channels including websites fact sheets blogs press releases and multimedia materials
- Ensure all communications align with branding and strategic communication guidelines
Compliance and Governance:
- Adhere to APS Values Employment Principles Code of Conduct and organisational social justice and inclusion principles
- Comply with Work Health and Safety policies and procedures
Experience / Requirements:
Mandatory skills and experience:
- Demonstrated background in communications or related field
- Experience tailoring communications for diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong judgement analytical thinking and practical problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to simplify complex technical information for non-technical audiences
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Personal capabilities:
- Demonstrated professionalism integrity and accountability consistent with public sector values
- Ability to communicate with influence and adapt messaging to different audiences

Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in communications public relations journalism or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
