Reporting directly to the Executive Director Financial Planning and Analysis the Director Research and Revenue is a critical leadership role that bridges high-level finance and research administration within the CFOs Portfolio.

In this role you will provide strategic and operational leadership to drive financial excellence transparency and continuous innovation across the universitys research ecosystem. You will lead a high-performing service-oriented team of approximately 45 finance professionals responsible for the end-to-end financial management compliance and advisory support of over $1 billion in annual research revenue across more than 12000 projects.

As the successful candidate your key responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Financial Leadership: Serving as a key advisor to the CFO Executive Director FP&A and senior academic leadership on research financial strategy risk management and commercial outcomes.
• Team Governance and Capability Uplift: Leading coaching and developing a geographically dispersed team promoting a culture of high performance collaboration and continuous professional growth.
• Lifecycle Financial Management: Overseeing the entire research finance lifecycle - including project costing pricing budget reporting post-award monitoring revenue recognition and project close-outs.
• Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensuring strict alignment with funding body regulations accounting standards and university policies with particular focus on complex matters such as US federal funding and HERDC reporting.
• Continuous Improvement: Initiating and implementing industry best-practice frameworks digital tools and streamlined processes to unlock efficiencies across the research finance ecosystem.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A relevant postgraduate qualification in business or accounting paired with current CA or CPA accreditation alongside extensive experience at a senior management level within a complex organisation
• Proven experience leading and developing large geographically dispersed teams of finance professionals with a track record of driving a customer-centric high-performance culture.
• Deep knowledge of national and international research environments with the commercial acumen necessary to optimise research funding utilisation and manage risk.
• Outstanding communication negotiation and influencing skills with a demonstrated ability to translate complex financial concepts to stakeholders with varying degrees of financial literacy.
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills with a background in driving continuous improvement or transformational change under high-pressure conditions.
