DevOps and Infrastructure Specialist – UNSW Faculty of Engineering

The Opportunity:
The role is responsible for automating system provisioning managing scalable and secure environments for exams and coursework and ensuring high availability of educational platforms. This position directly enhances the digital experience for students and staff supporting innovation in computer science education. The role of DevOps and Infrastructure Specialist reports to the Deputy Head of School (Education) and has no direct reports.

• Salary Level 7: $113926 - $123302 per annum 17% superannuation
• Full Time (35 hours)
• Continuing position
• Location: Kensington Sydney Australia (on campus attendance required)

• A degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with DevOps practices including automated configuration (e.g. CFEngine) git and CI/CD.
• Proficiency in managing Linux-based systems and virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware VirtualBox KVM).
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker Kubernetes).
• Experience supporting learning management systems (e.g. Moodle) and digital assessment platforms.
• Strong scripting skills (e.g. Bash Python) for automation and system management.
• Excellent problem-solving communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience in a higher education or research environment.
• Familiarity with secure exam environments and accessibility considerations.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure GCP) and hybrid infrastructure models.
• Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in educational settings.
