Join Westpacs centralised Data Digital & AI (DDAI) team and work hands-on with Generative AI and advanced machine learning to deliver real impact for customers and colleagues across the bank.

In this role youll design build and deploy production-grade AI solutions end to end working on meaningful business problems and seeing your work used at scale. Youll collaborate closely with engineers data scientists and business stakeholders applying modern data science techniques in a way that is practical responsible and customer focused.

Whats the role

Were looking for a Data Scientist to join our AI Services team where youll contribute directly to the delivery of machine learning and Generative AI solutions aligned to the banks strategic priorities.

Youll work end to end on real business problemshelping translate ambiguous questions into analytical approaches developing models and GenAI applications and supporting deployment into production. Youll apply strong technical skills while continuing to build depth across modelling engineering collaboration and responsible AI practices.

This role provides exposure to complex high-impact use cases across the bank and the opportunity to grow your capability by working alongside experienced data scientists engineers and platform teams.

What do I need

• 3 to 5 years of industry experience developing and deploying machine learning or data science solutions with exposure to production environments.
• Hands-on experience applying Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) to real-world problems or strong interest and demonstrated capability in this area.
• Solid understanding of modern machine learning techniques with exposure to deep learning and generative models considered an advantage.
• Practical experience developing models using frameworks such as TensorFlow PyTorch or Keras.
• Experience in one or more applied AI domains such as: Natural Language Processing (NLP) LLMs and Generative AI Text analytics and information extraction or Computer vision or multimodal AI.
• Experience building or experimenting with GenAI frameworks such as LlamaIndex LangChain AutoGen DSPy or similar.
• Strong Python programming skills with the ability to write clean readable and testable code.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS including running models or data pipelines in cloud environments.
• Curiosity strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to ethical and responsible AI.

How will I help

As a Data Scientist youll help deliver high-quality customer-centric AI outcomes through hands-on analysis modelling and experimentation and work with business partners to understand problems explore data and develop ML or GenAI solutions that create measurable value. Youll support the translation of insights into action helping teams adopt AI responsibly and effectively.

Additionally youll also contribute to improving data science practices by sharing learnings reusing patterns and continuously developing your technical and domain expertise.

What youll be doing

• Build test and support the deployment of machine learning and GenAI solutions including LLM-powered applications.
• Contribute to end-to-end data science workfrom problem definition and data exploration to model development and validation.
• Work closely with engineers and platform teams to ensure solutions are scalable secure and production-ready.
• Analyse data and model performance iterate on solutions and incorporate feedback to improve outcomes.
• Communicate insights and results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Follow and contribute to best practices for responsible explainable and maintainable AI.
• Learn from more experienced team members while progressively taking ownership of larger or more complex workstreams.
• Stay up to date with emerging techniques and tools in data science and GenAI sharing learnings with the team.
