Data Governance Officer

We are seeking Data Governance Officers to join our Data Management branch.

Data Governance Officers play a critical role in enabling the safe legal ethical secure and responsible access and use of data and analytics in the ATO.

Data and analytics use in the ATO is wide ranging and includes but is not limited to data matching curation visualisation risk modelling data sharing automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

EL1 Data Governance Officers are responsible for:

developing and implementing governance policies that are consistent and compliant with legislation regulations government policy organisational objectives and risk tolerance

developing and implementing guidelines standards processes and training materials to support staff to comply with policy obligations

developing implementing and maintaining frameworks that define how data and analytics is governed

developing and implementing data and analytics governance assurance programs and activities that oversee measure and report on compliance with policy and identifying and remediating gaps risks and issues

interpreting the application of policy to complex data and analytics use cases and providing timely practical and actionable advice to stakeholders that balances risk and value

partnering with stakeholders to integrate policies into organisational culture processes and practices.

Our ideal candidate:

is highly experienced in at least one of the following areas:

Policy design and implementation: developing and implementing governance policies frameworks guidelines standards and/or processes

Policy oversight and assurance: developing and implementing governance and assurance programs activities and reporting

Policy interpretation and advice: interpreting legislation regulations policies and guidelines into practical risk-based advice

has a strong understanding of data and analytics (including AI and automation) or related IT disciplines

cultivates complex business partner relationships tailors communication with credibility and influences and effectively negotiates outcomes across diverse and competing interests

has a proven ability to lead others in a fast-paced environment uplifting capability through coaching mentoring and knowledge transfer

has demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to arrive at balanced positions manage conflicting priorities and deliver measurable outcomes

leads the analysis of complex information to identify risks and issues providing evidence-based recommendations and high-quality briefs to support executive decision-making and strategic objectives.
