Whats the role
As the Data & AI Workforce & Skills Lead you will define the future workforce for Data & AI at Westpac. You will drive the workforce strategy capability framework and talent roadmap ensuring the bank has the skills capacity and talent required to thrive in an increasingly AI-enabled future. Working across the Practice People function and senior leadership teams you will shape career pathways workforce planning AI fluency and talent pipelines helping Westpac build the workforce needed for tomorrow not just today. Success will be measured by workforce readiness capability growth talent outcomes and the strength of the banks long-term Data & AI talent pipeline.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and execute the workforce strategy for the Data & AI profession aligned to Westpacs long-term business and technology ambitions.
- Drive the Talent of Tomorrow strategy building sustainable pipelines through graduate programs industry partnerships professional communities and emerging talent initiatives.
- Lead strategic workforce planning across all Data & AI job families identifying future demand capability gaps and critical skill risks.
- Partner with leaders across the business to anticipate workforce needs and ensure we have the right skills and capability to meet future demand.
- Provide thought leadership on emerging workforce trends and the future of Data & AI work.
- Partner with People and Talent Acquisition teams to strengthen attraction retention and succession strategies for critical Data & AI talent.
- Use workforce analytics and capability insights to inform strategic workforce decisions.
- Champion AI literacy and capability uplift helping create a culture of learning innovation and adoption.

Were looking for someone who understands how technology AI and changing ways of working will reshape the future data and AI workforce. As AI reshapes how work is performed the skills roles and capabilities required for success are changing rapidly. This role will help define what the future Data & AI workforce looks like at Westpac and how we build the talent needed to remain competitive for years to come. You will have experience developing workforce strategies capability frameworks and talent plans for complex organisations and are comfortable influencing senior leaders on future workforce and capability decisions. You combine strong workforce planning capability with an understanding of Data & AI disciplines and emerging industry trends.
Other skills and experience required include:
- Proven experience shaping future workforce strategies capability frameworks career architectures and talent plans using workforce planning and organisational design principles to build sustainable capability in large complex organisations.
- Experience analysing workforce and capability data and translating insights into strategic recommendations and actions.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to partner effectively with People teams Learning & Development Talent Acquisition and senior leaders.
- Experience leading large-scale workforce capability or organisational change initiatives.
- Understanding of Data & AI disciplines including Data Engineering AI Science Intelligence & Decisions and Data & AI Trust.
- Knowledge of how AI automation and emerging technologies are changing workforce capability requirements.
- Strong communication and engagement skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with industry bodies universities professional communities or talent networks to strengthen capability and talent pipelines.
- Passion for building future-ready workforces and fostering a culture of continuous learning innovation and AI fluency.
