Job Summary

Clinician

  • Full Time Permanent position
  • Location: headspace Taree

The Opportunity:

The Clinician works as part of the headspace Taree multidisciplinary team to provide youth-friendly evidence-informed developmentally appropriate family-inclusive and culturally responsive clinical and therapeutic services to young people aged 12 to 25 years and their families carers and support people.

The role works across the care pathway including intake screening assessment formulation brief intervention evidence-informed therapeutic intervention care coordination supported referral clinical review closure and transition within the employees qualifications registration or membership competency experience and agreed scope of practice.

Essential Qualifications and Registrations

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work Occupational Therapy Psychology Nursing Counselling Psychotherapy or another approved clinical or therapeutic discipline.
  • For counselling-qualified clinicians PACFA Clinical Registration ACA Level 3 or above or equivalent recognised professional membership is required.
  • Relevant professional registration or membership applicable to discipline.
  • Clinicians may include:
    • Social Workers who have completed an approved undergraduate or masters degree in Social Work and are eligible for or hold membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
    • Occupational Therapists who have completed an approved undergraduate or masters degree in Occupational Therapy and hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
    • Psychologists who hold full and current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
    • Provisional Psychologists who hold current provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and work within approved supervision requirements and scope of practice.
    • Division 1 Registered Nurses who hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and have relevant mental health experience.
    • Counsellors or Psychotherapists whose skills training and experience are equivalent to the requirements outlined within the Australian Counselling Association Scope of Practice Guidelines at a minimum Level 3 or above and who are registered with the relevant professional membership body such as the Australian Counselling Association Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia or equivalent.
  • Current drivers licence and access to a registered comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain and maintain.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Check.
  • Australian work rights.

Essential Experience/Skills

  • Minimum 2 years mental health counselling therapeutic or related clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing counselling brief intervention therapeutic support and care coordination within professional scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting young peoples mental health and wellbeing including working with families carers and support networks where appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health early intervention trauma-informed practice family-inclusive practice and recovery-oriented care.
  • Ability to provide evidence-informed interventions and therapeutic support within professional scope organisational policies clinical governance requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to identify assess document and escalate clinical risk appropriately.
  • Experience in providing therapeutic interventions to support young peoples mental health as well as their carers and families
  • A demonstrated understanding of mental health assessments referrals and coordination of care for young people
  • Demonstrated ability to work holistically with young people with mental health and drug and alcohol issues including indigenous refugee CALD and low socio-economic background
  • Experience working independently in regional areas

Desirable:

  • Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) accredited
  • Current registration with a relevant professional association
  • 2 years experience
