The Birthing in Our Communities (BiOC) program provides a coordinated and culturally safe support system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families during pregnancy and childbirth. By offering a comprehensive mix of services tailored to family and community needs we aim to build family capacity strengthen community connections and safeguard the wellbeing of children. At ATSICHS through holistic case management and collaboration with multiple service providers BiOC empowers families to navigate challenges develop essential life skills and access therapeutic support to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families. The program also engages with families involved in the child protection system working to address safety concerns facilitate reunification and support positive outcomes for children and their families.

Duties

• Effectively engage clients through cold-call home-based visits. Turn initial service offerings home visit into consent by delivering motivational interviewing and positive reinforcement practice interventions.
• Build strong relationships with clients through effective micro-counselling techniques (body language voice tone active listening) and delivering unconditional positive regard in removing shame or blame perceptions of client beliefs.
• Deliver immediate safety assessment and safety responses documented and approved by the Line Manager in instances of domestic and family violence self-harm/mental health and child for client supports against systemic barriers (courts tertiary care systems etc).
• Facilitate ATSICHS Narrative Assessment Tools completed in full by client ensuring the voices of clients are imbedded in their assessment.
• Facilitate conversations and introspection on all assessment domains. Lead tough conversations with clients outlining non-negotiables of statutory bodies (Child Safety Police Courts Youth Justice etc.). Build change readiness of clients through motivational interviewing strategies and positive reinforcement..
• Ensure families are provided care throughout pregnancy birth and postnatal period in collaboration with clients assigned midwives and appropriate care service providers. Ensure client is supported through the 3 stages of BiOC schedule of care - Antenatal Care Postpartum Care and Infant Development.
• Deliver positive reinforcement and continually highlight client strengths and successes to shift/maintain a positive immediate outlook.
• Deliver ongoing motivational change interventions safely challenging client values with current actions.
• Deliver cultural supports and services to build spiritual wellbeing.
• Build the parenting capability through in-home parental mentoring parenting confidence and attachment knowledge that promote flourishing child rearing.
• Facilitate imbedding structured family routines that improve household management healthy eating and quality family time. Improving parental management of stress and personal wellbeing including coordinating access to ATSICHS contracted private mental health services.
• Improving financial health of families by achieving meaningful employment and/or training. Improving school attendance and educational engagement of parents working closely with schools to overcome educational barriers.
• Deliver case managed services according to the program model of care ensuring minimum case load requirements are maintained to ensure equitable access to services for community.
• Maintain accurate and detailed case notes of all client interactions ensuring case notes are written from the perspective of clients in their voice.

• Bachelors degree in a relevant social services field with a practicum/work history in family support child protection youth support or housing roles.

OR

• Certificate IV in a relevant communityservices field with at least 3 years of case management experience within family support child protection youth support housing or a related field and a commitment to complete a Diploma (funded by ATSICHS) while working.

AND

• Strongcase management skills including grammatical writing ability personal organisation and time management and execution of services according to the model of care phases of work.
• Demonstrated ability to understand apply and critiquesocial work theoretical frameworks of practice aligned with ATSICHS values. Ability to deliver real-time adaption of client interventions that build client motivation insight and acceptance self-awareness decision making (agency) and sustainable behaviour change.
• Ability to apply technical knowledge of relevant legislation (child protection/housing/youth justice etc). Ability to critique legislative grey zones while managing organisational and child/client harm risks.
• Ability to proactively engage with and develop strong working relationships and influence external stakeholders including Child Safety Youth Justice Schools and Hospitals.
• Ability to identify and refernumerous internal ATSICHS programs and services to activate wrap-around care for clients trading-off and negotiating resources across the organisation and between other teams to achieve client impact.

Additional Requirements

• Valid National Police Certificate.
• Current Working with Childrens Card (Blue Card) or be eligible toapply.
• Drivers Licence.
• Evidence of Work Rights.
• Immunisations Category B.
• Travel to work in the community on a regular basis.
