The opportunity:
Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) is looking for an Application Support Engineer to join our growing Software Engineering team.
This is more than a traditional application support role. Youll work at the intersection of software cloud platforms and operationssupporting researchers maintaining business-critical applications and helping build the operational foundations that keep our technology running reliably.

About your new role
Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering youll provide hands-on business-as-usual support across a diverse portfolio of web applications cloud platforms databases and operational services.
Working closely with researchers developers and cloud engineers you will troubleshoot issues manage application support requests coordinate patching and monitoring activities improve documentation and help establish best-practice operational processes as the Software Engineering team continues to grow.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a few years experience who wants to broaden their technical skills while working in a collaborative engineering environment.
What youll do
- Provide application support for web applications microsites and cloud-based services
- Manage support requests from researchers and internal stakeholders
- Troubleshoot application website and database issues
- Coordinate monitoring alert triage routine patching and platform maintenance
- Support AWS operations access administration and cloud platform activities
- Manage software domain and certificate renewals
- Maintain documentation runbooks service catalogues and operational records
- Contribute to automation and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational support
What youll bring
- At least 2 years relevant industry experience in application web platform or technical operations support
- Experience supporting web applications or business-critical systems
- Knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Exposure to AWS or cloud-hosted environments
- Experience with Windows Server administration and application patching
- Familiarity with Git and basic scripting (PowerShell Bash or Python)
- Excellent troubleshooting communication and customer service skills
- A structured approach to documentation process improvement and operational support
Experience with WordPress Umbraco Cloudflare GitLab Docker Terraform or Linux will be highly regarded.
