The opportunity

Were looking for a Policy Coordinator to play a critical supporting role within the Alcohol Programs Team. Working across a range of live policy priorities youll help drive evidence-informed advocacy by monitoring policy developments analysing legislation engaging with stakeholders and contributing to initiatives that influence decision-making.

This is a varied and dynamic role for someone who enjoys asking questions thinking critically and finding smarter ways to identify what we know and what we need to know to strengthen our policy positions.

Based in Subiaco this position is full-time contract until 30 June 2027. Part-time applications will be considered for candidates with relevant experience.

What youll be doing:

Contributing to the progress of alcohol harm prevention policy at the state level including monitoring the policy environment in WA monitoring policy developments in other jurisdictions and maintaining an awareness of policy-relevant evidence.

Writing clear and evidence-informed policy documents (e.g. submissions to policy consultations reports briefing notes).

Providing support to local governments seeking to progress alcohol harm prevention initiatives.

Monitoring liquor license applications and preparing evidence-based responses to applications of priority concern.

Preparing high-quality written materials including e-newsletter content external communications (e.g. for social media or web) and advocacy content.

Developing external stakeholder relationships to support collaboration.

Representing Cancer Council WA at meetings and events.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

A tertiary qualification in a psychology law or a health-related field

Experience in the development and delivery of public health policy and programs

Knowledge and understanding of state and national policy landscape for preventing harm from alcohol use

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Demonstrates initiative curiosity and confidence

Has strong critical thinking and analytical skills

An excellent written communicator who can translate complex issues into clear and compelling messages

Is open-minded innovative and motivated by meaningful impact
