Based in Tjuntjuntjara Spinifex Lands WA

Tjuntjuntjara is a small remote Aboriginal community located on the Spinifex Lands in the Western Desert region of Western Australia. Within this area Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) is an Aboriginal corporation with responsibility for managing the essential and community services in the community. This includes but is not limited to the Community Store Community Resource Centre a Womens Centre Indigenous Sport and Recreation program an Environmental Health program municipal services (airstrip tip road maintenance water power sewerage) mechanics workshop the Community Development Program and Spinifex Health Services (including Youth and Home and Community Care programs). Tjuntjuntjara is the main population Centre for the Spinifex Lands over 55000 sq. kms of Native Title area in the Great Victoria Desert region of Western Australia.

Role

The Support Worker will assist the health staff to provide services in line with the CHSP Guidelines to CHSP Clients. This includes personal care and assistance domestic assistance including hygienic preparation of meals and delivery as directed by the Health Services Manager. A key part of the role will be to comply with safe work practices and procedures and maintain a clean kitchen.

The Support Worker will assist clients with activities personal care and laundry services. The Support Worker will assist the health staff to provide services in line with the CHSP Guidelines to CHSP Clients. A key part of the role will be to comply with safe work practices and procedures and maintain a clean kitchen.

Duties

Provide in Home Care for Aged Care Clients

  • Perform domestic assistance tasks as identified on client worksheets including general household cleaning laundry linen changes and cleaning of bathrooms living areas and toilets.
  • Assist with meal planning including food costing ingredient ordering and stock management.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and ensure timely delivery to community members.
  • Conduct environmental safety observations during meal deliveries and promptly report any actual or potential risks to the Manager.
  • Maintain the confidentiality privacy and security of client and family information at all times.
  • Participate in mandatory training programs and attend staff meetings as required.
  • Comply with organisational policies procedures and workplace standards.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of services provided and duties undertaken.

The candidate will have:

  • Well-developed communication and active listening skills with the ability to build positive relationships and respond effectively to client needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and assistance to individuals in a respectful compassionate and person-centred manner.
  • Understanding of data integrity principles and the ability to maintain accurate confidential and secure records.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Capable of working with limited supervision while maintaining a high standard of performance and accountability.
  • Strong personal drive resilience and adaptability including the ability to live and work in remote or regional locations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations identify solutions and respond appropriately to challenges.
  • Reliable organised and committed to delivering quality services in a professional manner.
  • A current Western Australian Working with Children Check.
  • A National Police Clearance (not more than 2 years old).
  • Australian citizenship permanent resident status or appropriate work visa.
  • A current manual drivers licence.
  • Certificate 3 in Individual Support or Certificate 4 in Ageing Support (or equivalent).

The candidate will ideally have:

  • Current first aid certificate
  • Food handling certification or Knowledge of good food handling
  • Good computer skills with understanding of Word & Excel
