Job Description:

An opportunity exists for an Advanced Trainee Nephrology with St Vincents Hospital Sydney for the period of 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027.

Nephrology is a complex and interesting specialty with a broad variety of clinical conditions and wide range of medical practice from specialist to generalist from management of acutely affected patients to a long-term holistic care. Its complexity is not only charming but well respected in internal medicine.

Nephrology provides an intellectually stimulating and challenging working environment. It is defined by the care of patients with diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract. It is comprised of several significant components including general medicine basic science clinical research and teaching as well as the clinical areas of transplantation dialysis hypertension obstetric medicine and an opportunity for procedural work.

What youll be doing

Advanced trainees in Nephrology provide expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Renal Medicine departments. They practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Nephrologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to kidneys and the urinary tract.

Advanced trainees participate in outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings including hospital facilities and private consulting rooms. The role includes patient assessment making treatment decisions performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.

Close and effective liaison with consultants will allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
