Job Summary

The Tobacco Blender is responsible for developing maintaining and optimizing tobacco blends to ensure consistent product quality taste aroma and cost efficiency. The role requires extensive knowledge of tobacco leaf characteristics blend formulation sensory evaluation and manufacturing processes. The Blender works closely with Leaf Procurement Product Development Quality Assurance and Manufacturing teams to ensure products consistently meet company and market requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Blend Development & Optimization
* Develop and maintain tobacco blends in line with brand specifications and consumer preferences.
* Create new blends for product development and innovation projects.
* Optimize blend formulations to achieve quality and cost objectives.
* Evaluate alternative tobacco grades and origins while maintaining product consistency.
* Support new product launches through blend design and validation.
Sensory Evaluation & Quality Control
* Conduct regular sensory assessments of tobacco blends and finished products.
* Monitor blend consistency across production batches.
* Investigate and resolve blend-related quality issues.
* Establish and maintain blending standards and specifications.
* Ensure flavour aroma burn characteristics and smoking quality remain within defined parameters.
Leaf Evaluation
* Assess tobacco leaf quality grades and suitability for blending purposes.
* Participate in leaf purchasing evaluations and selection processes.
* Work closely with leaf procurement teams to understand crop quality and availability.
* Recommend leaf utilization strategies to maximize quality and profitability.
Manufacturing Support
* Provide technical support to production teams regarding blend preparation and execution.
* Monitor blending operations to ensure compliance with approved formulations.
* Support process improvement initiatives within blending and manufacturing operations.
* Collaborate with Quality Assurance to maintain product standards.
Documentation & Compliance
* Maintain accurate blend formulations specifications and technical records.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
* Protect confidentiality of proprietary blend recipes and product formulations.
Candidate Profile
Education
* Bachelors degree in Agriculture Agronomy Tobacco Science Food Science Chemistry Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Formal training in tobacco blending or sensory science would be an advantage.
Experience
* Minimum 5 10 years experience in tobacco blending within a cigarette or tobacco manufacturing environment.
* Proven track record in blend formulation and optimization.
* Experience evaluating tobacco leaf grades origins and characteristics.
* Practical knowledge of cigarette manufacturing processes and tobacco preparation.
* Experience supporting new product development projects is desirable.
Technical Skills
* Strong knowledge of tobacco types origins grades and curing methods.
* Expertise in blend design and tobacco utilization.
* Strong sensory evaluation and organoleptic assessment skills.
* Understanding of cigarette construction and tobacco processing.
* Ability to interpret laboratory and quality data.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production reporting systems.
