Required Accounts Executive in Harare, Zimbabwe
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Accounts Executive to join our newly established company based in Harare Zimbabwe. This role is central to building a robust financial foundation for the business. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in accounting software a thorough understanding of Zimbabwean taxation and compliance frameworks and proven expertise in the fast-paced environment of commodity and agricultural (agri) trading including precise stock management and high-speed transaction processing.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts using accounting software
- Prepare monthly quarterly and annual financial statements including P&L balance sheets and cash flow statements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable ensuring timely invoicing collections and supplier payments.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and general ledger management.
- Process payroll and ensure accurate statutory deductions are applied.
- Ensure full compliance with ZIMRA regulations including VAT Corporate Tax PAYE and Withholding Tax.
- Prepare and submit accurate tax returns and statutory filings within prescribed deadlines.
- Liaise with ZIMRA and other regulatory authorities on tax matters queries and audits.
- Stay current with Zimbabwean tax law updates Finance Act amendments and regulatory changes.
- Ensure compliance with the Companies and Other Business Entities Act (COBE) and other applicable legislation.
- Manage the financial aspects of commodity procurement sales and trading contracts.
- Process and reconcile agri commodity transactions including grains tobacco cotton and other traded produce.
- Track commodity pricing currency fluctuations and their impact on margins and profitability.
- Coordinate with trading logistics and operations teams to ensure accurate cost allocation per trade or shipment.
- Maintain contract registers and ensure all trade documentation is properly filed.
- Conduct regular and spot stock counts to ensure physical inventory matches accounting records.
- Maintain a real-time stock valuation ledger using FIFO LIFO or weighted average methods as appropriate.
- Flag discrepancies shrinkages or losses promptly and investigate root causes.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams for seamless stock reconciliation.
- Prepare stock movement reports for management review.
- Execute a high volume of financial transactions accurately and efficiently under time-sensitive trading conditions.
- Capture and post transactions in real time to minimise end-of-day backlogs.
- Maintain transaction audit trails to support internal controls and external audits.
- Assist in the implementation of automation tools to accelerate processing speed.
- Generate financial and management reports for senior leadership on a regular and ad hoc basis.
- Support external auditors during annual audits by providing required documentation and schedules.
- Assist in developing and enforcing internal financial controls and policies.
- Monitor budget versus actuals and flag variances with explanations.
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance Commerce or a related field (required).
- Professional qualification or active pursuit of CPA (Zimbabwe) ACCA CIMA or equivalent (added advantage).
- Minimum 35 years of hands-on accounting experience preferably in a trading agribusiness or commodity-related environment.
- Demonstrated experience with accounting software Pastel Evolution Sage 300 QuickBooks or similar.
- Proven track record of handling ZIMRA compliance VAT returns and statutory filings independently.
- Experience with stock and inventory management in a trading company.
- Proficiency in at least one accounting software platform; ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables VLOOKUP financial modelling).
- Understanding of foreign currency accounting and multi-currency transactions (USD / ZiG).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and digital finance tools is an advantage.
- High accuracy and speed able to process large volumes of transactions without errors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-moving trading environment.
