Operations Manager Logistics

We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially focused Operations Manager to lead and optimise large-scale transport logistics and supply chain operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence fleet performance service delivery cost control and business growth across a complex and geographically dispersed operation.

This role requires a strategic leader with strong operational expertise capable of managing large transport fleets multiple depots and cross-functional teams while ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and customer expectations.

The position oversees a workforce of approximately 350 drivers and 40 operational support staff ensuring efficient execution of transport and logistics activities across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Lead and manage day-to-day transport and logistics operations across multiple locations.
• Develop and implement operational strategies that support business objectives and drive performance improvements Ensure effective fleet utilisation route optimisation and resource allocation.
• Monitor operational KPIs and implement corrective actions where required.
• Drive a culture of accountability performance and continuous improvement.

Fleet & Logistics Management

• Oversee fleet planning utilisation maintenance coordination and operational availability.
• Ensure efficient transport scheduling and route planning to maximise productivity and customer service.
• Work closely with workshop teams to minimise downtime and improve vehicle reliability.
• Monitor compliance with transport legislation safety standards and company policies.

Financial & Commercial Management

• Develop and manage operational budgets.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiencies.
• Monitor fleet operating costs and productivity metrics.
• Support commercial initiatives through effective service delivery and customer engagement.
• Manage third-party service providers and contractor relationships.

Team Leadership & People Management

• Lead coach and develop operational managers supervisors drivers and support staff.
• Conduct performance reviews and implement performance management processes.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company standards and procedures.
• Foster collaboration across operations workshop customer service and support functions.

Risk Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure compliance with health safety environmental and transport regulations.
• Develop and maintain operational policies procedures and SOPs.
• Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Prepare and present operational reports to senior management.
• Lead operational review meetings and planning sessions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Transport & Logistics Supply Chain Management Business Management or a related field.
• MBA MBL or other postgraduate business qualification will be an added advantage.
• Professional transport or logistics qualifications are advantageous.

Experience Required

• Minimum 10 years experience within transport logistics and supply chain operations.
• Proven leadership experience managing large-scale transport and fleet operations.
• Experience overseeing multi-site and decentralised operations.
• Strong exposure to FMCG distribution logistics or commercial fleet environments.
• Demonstrated success managing large operational teams and complex logistics networks.
