Job Summary

On behalf of our client we are seeking an experienced and highly capable Lodge / General Manager to oversee the overall operations and management of a luxury safari lodge in a remote wildlife destination.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the lodge ongoing service excellence for guests while developing and maintaining a trained and motivated team of staff as well as adhering to financial management of the budget by controlling costs and overseeing all departments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Overall Operations and Management
  • To oversee and coordinate all aspects of the daily operations across all departments within the lodge.
  • To work closely with and support departmental heads including guest liaison front-of-house service kitchen housekeeping guides spa shop and maintenance to ensure that their departments are operating efficiently.
  • To liaise closely with relevant authorities and ensure expectations are clearly understood and appropriately managed within the lodge environment.
Guest Experience Management
  • Ensure that all guests receive a high level of personalised service.
  • Address and resolve all guest concerns or issues promptly and effectively.
  • Oversee the planning and execution through the day sheet of all guest activities including game drives walks outdoor catering WOW surprises and all other experiences.
Staff Management
  • Participate with HR in the recruitment and selection of staff ensuring that the team is skilled and capable.
  • Conduct quarterly performance appraisals in accordance with the set format issued by HR.
  • Provide training and development in accordance with the standard operating procedures for all staff and facilitate skills development at all levels.
  • Motivate and lead the team to deliver exceptional service and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Resolve issues within the established structures ensuring that all due process is followed particularly with conflict resolution or disciplinary matters adhering to reporting channels and ensuring HR is always consulted.
Financial Management
  • Work with the lodge s financial reporting channels to develop and manage the budgets for the overall running of the lodge and per department.
  • Implement cost control measures to ensure the lodge operates within budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure that all inventory is updated in the financial system.
  • Ensure daily weekly and monthly financial recording and reporting as required as well as monthly quarterly and annual stock takes of all equipment and assets.
Logistics and Maintenance
  • Oversee the maintenance and any repairs of lodge facilities vehicles boats operating machinery and utilities (energy water sewerage) ensuring that they are in good condition and comply with safety standards.
  • Supervise all heads of departments to ensure they are fulfilling daily tasks and their teams are productive according to their standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure high levels of hygiene are being practiced throughout the entire lodge and that all facilities are kept clean and in good condition.
  • Manage the procurement of supplies and maintain an accurate inventory of lodge assets.
  • Reduce the chances for theft or loss of inventory and lodge assets by enforcing preventative policies and procedures.
Compliance and Regulations
  • Ensure that the lodge operates in compliance to the laws of Zimbabwe local regulations environmental standards and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure that all licences and permits are up to date and in order for every department vehicle or boat as well as any individual staff member who requires a current licence to undertake their duties.
Community and Stakeholder Relations
  • Foster positive relationships with the local communities and stakeholders always ensuring that management is consulted with all matters relating to the community and any issues relating to community staff members.
  • Implement and promote sustainable practices in the lodge operations to minimise environmental impact particularly relating to reduce reuse and recycle.
Health and Safety
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
  • Uphold health and safety standards including sanitation food safety and medical emergency protocol.
Reporting and Communication
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on the lodge s performance guest feedback and any notable incidents.
  • Maintain clear communication channels with all staff guests and management.
Continuous Improvement
  • Analyse guest feedback and staff input to identify areas for improvement.
  • Introduce innovative ideas and improvements to enhance the overall guest experience within budget and in alignment with the organisation s brand standards.
Goal
  • To ensure an exceptional guest experience while maintaining the lodge s efficiency and sustainability and a motivated trained and engaged staff complement.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for international guests with diverse cultures. Must have an outgoing hosting personality.

  • Good initiative to cope with difficult situations in a remote environment.
  • Knowledge and interest in flora and fauna are sufficient to be able to engage with guests on the subject.
  • First aid training to handle trauma care.
  • Basic knowledge of hybrid solar energy plants water plants and sewerage treatment plants mechanics electrical and carpentry and a willingness to learn about the above.
  • Decisive and clear leadership skills to deal with a crisis and quick decision-making.
  • General knowledge including the geography of Zimbabwe and Southern Africa as well as current world affairs.
  • Driver s licence and knowledge of off-road driving and vehicle recovery methods.
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and have competent computer skills.
  • Must become familiar with the relevant government policies and Acts that govern safari tourism operations in Zimbabwe.
Qualifications
  • Degree or 3-year Diploma in Tourism Hospitality or a similar qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in camp and/or hotel management.
