Finance Manager Senior Accountant (Construction Industry)

Our client is seeking an experienced Finance Manager / Senior Accountant to provide financial leadership and operational support within a dynamic construction environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the full finance function managing project accounting and cost control supporting business decision-making and ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple construction projects.

This role requires a commercially minded finance professional with strong construction industry experience and proficiency in BuildSmart capable of partnering with operational teams to drive project profitability financial discipline and sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Commercial Support

• Support the General Manager in developing and implementing financial strategies aligned with business objectives and project delivery requirements.
• Provide financial analysis and commercial insights to improve profitability operational performance and cost efficiency.
• Assist with strategic decision-making through accurate financial reporting and forecasting.

Budgeting Forecasting & Cost Management

• Prepare and manage annual company budgets and project-specific budgets.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and provide detailed variance analysis.
• Develop and maintain accurate cash flow forecasts and project cost projections.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.

Financial Accounting & Controls

• Manage the day-to-day finance function including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and general ledger activities.
• Ensure all financial transactions are accurately processed and recorded.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Oversee supplier payments subcontractor accounts and project-related financial transactions.

Project Costing & Financial Performance

• Monitor project costs commitments accruals and profitability using BuildSmart.
• Ensure accurate allocation of costs to projects and cost centres.
• Work closely with project managers and operational teams to maintain financial discipline and cost control.
• Track project performance and provide regular reporting on financial status and project profitability.

Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly management accounts project reports and financial statements.
• Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to management.
• Analyse financial results and provide recommendations to improve business performance.
• Present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

• Monitor and manage company cash flow requirements.
• Ensure sufficient liquidity is maintained to support ongoing project execution.
• Manage banking relationships reconciliations and treasury activities.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with all tax statutory regulatory and reporting requirements.
• Coordinate internal and external audits.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with construction projects and business operations.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate closely with project managers procurement teams suppliers contractors and external service providers.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with banks auditors regulatory authorities and key stakeholders.
• Support operational teams with financial information and commercial guidance.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting Finance Commerce or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (CA ACCA CIMA CPA or equivalent) will be advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 5 10 years experience in finance accounting or financial management.
• Proven experience within the construction engineering infrastructure or project-based environment.
• Strong understanding of project costing contract accounting and construction financial management.
• Previous experience using BuildSmart is essential.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles financial reporting budgeting forecasting and taxation.
