Our client in the finance and accounting industry is looking for an experienced and commercially astute Senior Accountant to lead financial operations and strengthen financial governance within a packaging manufacturing environment.
The role is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions financial reporting manufacturing cost controls statutory compliance inventory valuation budgeting and operational financial performance analysis. The successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership to support efficient plant operations profitability improvement and sustainable business growth.
This position requires a highly analytical hands-on finance professional with strong manufacturing finance experience particularly in cost accounting inventory-intensive environments and financial systems optimisation within industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate monthly quarterly and annual financial statements

Produce management accounts and operational financial performance reports for executive leadership

Conduct variance analysis against budgets and production targets

Present financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making

Oversee product costing cost allocation standard costing and margin analysis across packaging product lines

Monitor raw material usage production labour efficiency overhead absorption and waste control

Analyse plant production costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements

Ensure accurate inventory valuation and manufacturing cost reconciliations

Provide financial analysis to support plant performance optimisation

Lead annual budgeting processes across operational departments

Prepare rolling forecasts and cash flow projections

Monitor actual performance against approved budgets and key operational KPIs
-
Support senior management with financial planning and capital allocation decisions
-
Oversee financial controls for raw materials work-in-progress and finished goods
-
Review stock variances and investigate discrepancies with operational teams

Support regular stock counts and reconciliation processes
-
Ensure robust valuation controls across manufacturing inventory systems

Ensure full compliance with statutory tax and regulatory requirements

Oversee VAT PAYE corporate tax filings and other statutory submissions

Strengthen internal control systems and financial risk management frameworks

Coordinate external audits and statutory financial reporting requirements

Manage working capital and cash flow forecasting

Oversee accounts receivable accounts payable and supplier payment cycles

Maintain banking relationships and payment control frameworks
-
Ensure adequate liquidity to support manufacturing and procurement operations

Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff

Strengthen financial discipline across production procurement and inventory teams

Partner with operational leadership to improve cost efficiency and reporting accuracy

Improve accounting workflows and financial reporting processes

Support ERP and manufacturing financial system optimisation

Drive automation and efficiency in financial reporting and operations

Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance Commerce or related field
-
Full professional qualification (ACCA CIMA CA ZICA CPA or equivalent)

7 10 years progressive accounting experience including at least 4 years in senior finance leadership roles

Strong manufacturing finance experience ideally within packaging plastics industrial manufacturing or FMCG environments

Proven expertise in cost accounting and inventory-intensive operations

Strong knowledge of IFRS and statutory compliance requirements

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems

Experience preparing audited financial statements and managing external audit processes
