Youth Basketball Referees (6-10) Gym Supervisors (2) (Part-Time)

The Cherry Hill Recreation Department is currently seeking responsible and enthusiastic Youth Basketball Referees/Gym Supervisors for its 3-on-3 recreational basketball league. This position is responsible for officiating youth basketball games while helping create a safe positive and enjoyable environment for participants.

Youth Basketball Referees should assist in teaching the fundamentals of basketball to youth players while enforcing league rules promoting fair play and encouraging good sportsmanship. The basketball program is currently offered in late Fall/Winter for youth residents in grades 2-8 and requires ample seasonal staff for successful implementation.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and part-time Recreation Coordinators this position performs officiating scorekeeping and general game supervision duties. Staff may also be responsible for overseeing gym facilities and completing miscellaneous duties before during and after games.

Minor custodial duties as needed.

• Familiarity and understanding of basketball rules
• Ability to make quick accurate and firm decisions
• Prefer applicants with enthusiasm for sports and working with youth
• Must be punctual
• Ability to assist in instructional tasks for youth
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral
• Ability to work weekday evenings (6pm 9:30pm)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and public
• First aid and CPR certification preferred but not required
• Maintain necessary safety standards by checking equipment and facility for safety hazards.
• Present professionalism through appropriate appearance and knowledge
• Must be at least 16 years of age

• Minimum of one year of similar work experience
• Experience playing basketball at a competitive level preferred but not required
• High school education or any equivalent combination and experience

Hours will be assigned by the Recreation Manager and include weekday evenings at local Cherry Hill elementary school gym. Part-Time employees will not exceed 28 work hours in one week.

• Successful background check
• Valid New Jersey Drivers license
• May involve lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects (20-60 pounds)
• Applicants must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time
• New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011 Chapter 70) if selected for the position

• Referee/score/clock - $18/hr (ages 16)
• Gym Supervisor (all duties) - $20/hr (ages 18)
