Job Overview
The Online and Personalized Learning Specialist serves as an instructional mentor and educational systems designer supporting educators online and in-person at the 12th Street campus. The specialist leads the implementation of online and in-person learning experiences that expand access flexibility and personalization while maintaining high expectations for rigor relevance and student ownership of learning.
In-person the Specialist supports the implementation of personalized competency-based and future-focused learning practices. The Specialist is responsible for building in-person teacher capacity to design and facilitate student-centered profession-based learning experiences aligned to clearly defined competencies and durable skills. Working under the direction of the INNOVATE principal the Specialist partners with educators to shift instruction from traditional models to innovative mastery-based approaches that prioritize student agency real-world application and authentic learning.
The Specialist is also responsible for building online teacher capacity to design and facilitate online courses aligned with the Weber Online Course Structure Guide. Working under the direction of the Online principal the Specialist supports the design development and continuous improvement of online courses. This includes supporting educators in creating high-quality online curriculum building full courses and modules aligned to the course structure guide and ensuring courses are rigorous engaging and accessible for all learners.
In both capacities the Specialist promotes the effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence in course design and instruction while guiding the development of AI-aware and AI-resistant learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking originality and authentic demonstration of mastery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support educators in designing AI-aware and AI-resistant learning experiences while promoting responsible ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence
- Facilitate professional learning coaching cycles and ongoing support for instructional improvement
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities including group trainings workshops and one-on-one coaching cycles
- Support teachers in analyzing student data to inform instruction intervention and mastery-based progression
- Collaborate with school leadership and PLCs to ensure alignment consistency and quality across in-person online and blended learning environments
- Maintain update and oversee the Weber Innovation Whats Up Google Site to ensure timely communication and accurate information for students staff and stakeholders
- Serve as the Weber Innovation Testing Coordinator including organizing coordinating and supporting all required state and school testing processes for both online and in-person students
- Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position:Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration direct interaction with team members other staff students and/or guardians and access to on-site equipment and resources.
In-Person Teaching Support Responsibilities
- Support and mentor educators in designing and implementing personalized competency-based learning aligned to proficiency scales and mastery-based practices
- Model and co-design student-centered profession-based and project-based learning experiences
- Support intentional integration of leadership development within all courses to promote student agency collaboration and real-world application
- Guide the development of authentic assessments and performance tasks that emphasize critical thinking application and original student work
- Support consistent progress monitoring feedback cycles and opportunities for student revision based on demonstrated mastery
- Assist in the development and implementation of competency frameworks proficiency scales and aligned assessment practices
- Lead and support continuous improvement of systems that enhance personalization flexibility and student ownership of learning
Online Teaching Support Responsibilities
- Build teacher capacity to design rigorous engaging and accessible online courses for Weber Online
- Build online teacher capacity and assist in ensuring courses adhere to the Weber Online Course Structure Guide
- Provide and organize professional development specifically for online teachers
- Assist in hosting workshop days for online teachers to collaborate and improve courses
- Assist in creating best practices and continually improving guidelines for online courses
- Review online courses and make suggestions for improvement
- Help to gather analyze distribute and implement feedback from course surveys
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Physical Requirements
- Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Move about inside and outside the school to access files students and machinery.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator copy machine computer computer printer.
- Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building.
- Constantly positions self to maintain files students or objects.
- Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Have the ability to observe details at close and far range.
- Frequently move items weighing up to 20 pounds across the classroom for various needs.
- Constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Teachers in SpEd P.E. CTE Theatre and/or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate proficiency in AI tools and digital learning platforms and provide training and support for instructional use
- Valid secondary teaching license/certification
- Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience
- Experience implementing personalized competency-based learning (PCBL) practices in a non-traditional or innovative learning environment
- Experience in consulting mentoring or professional development for educators
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and facilitating online or blended learning environments
- Demonstrated ability to design competency-based curriculum proficiency scales and authentic assessments
- Experience integrating leadership development durable skills and project-based or profession-based learning into instruction
- Proficiency in digital learning platforms and emerging technologies including effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education
- Strong collaboration communication and facilitation skills with both adult learners and students
