Job Title: VMWare Infrastructure Engineer

Job Description:

The client is seeking a VMware Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a highly available secure and resilient enterprise virtualization environment supporting the State of Maryland. The ideal candidate must have strong expertise in VMware technologies along with advanced Windows Server vulnerability remediation and patching troubleshooting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Expert-level troubleshooting and analysis of and using PowerShell
Deep understanding of Component-Based Servicing (CBS) and WinSxS architecture
Advanced usage of DISM (/RestoreHealth) and SFC utilities for Windows remediation
Automate Windows Update Agent reset and SoftwareDistribution cache cleanup using PowerShell
Experience managing environments with Tanium
Troubleshoot System Reserved Partition space issues and Volume Shadow Copies
Identify conflicts between Trusted Installer services and EDR/Antivirus tools

VMware Infrastructure Management:
Administer and manage enterprise VMware environments including VMware vSphere vCenter and ESXi
Configure and maintain ESXi hosts clusters resource pools and virtual infrastructure performance
Support HA/DR solutions including replication failover failback and DR testing
Integrate VMware with enterprise storage platforms including SAN/NAS and vSAN
Work with NetApp Infinidat or similar enterprise storage technologies

Core Infrastructure & Security:
Support DNS DHCP IPAM TCP/IP networking VLANs and segmentation
Implement VMware security hardening and vulnerability remediation
Provide Tier 3 production support root cause analysis and outage resolution
Participate in on-call support rotation and change management activities
Maintain operational documentation SOPs and compliance standards

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience)
7 years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience
5 years of hands-on VMware experience in large-scale environments
Strong expertise with VMware vSphere vCenter and ESXi administration
Experience with HA/DR architectures replication backup and recovery solutions
Strong knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems
Experience with monitoring backup and performance tuning tools
VMware Certifications such as VCP/VCAP preferred
Experience working in state/local government or regulated environments preferred
Familiarity with AWS/Azure hybrid cloud environments and enterprise storage platforms
ITIL or similar operational framework certification preferred
